Posted on :Tuesday , 19th February 2024 The Prime Minister of Tanzania, Mr. Kassim Majaliwa recently stated that the government has allocated 4.3 million U.S dollars to boost the cultivation of palm oil as a part of its strategy to develop the crop so that its farmers are on the same level as growers of other cash crops.
The National Oil Palm Project has taken over the management, expansion and cultivation of palm oil growing across the country. The project takes over from the Vegetable Oil Development Project, which has been managing palm oil growing on Kalangala’s main island, Bugala, and the outlying islands of Bunyama and Bubembe.
135 schools in Kigoma Region start oil palm cultivation
A TOTAL of 119 primary schools and 16 primary schools including those in Uvinza District in Kigoma Region have embarked in oil palm farming in response to the call from Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa for every government institution to ensure it cultivates the crop in order to increase-
He said the Premier directed the prison to improve production of palm oil and cultivation of the crop. He said they have allocated a 20 acres land for construction of a modern palm oil industry, warehouses and expansion of the existing factory. He said that both prisons, Kwitanga and Ilagala had established new palm farms.
