Quality of Canola Oil Obtained by Conventional
Quality of canola oil obtained by the supercritical fluid extraction (SFE), using CO 2 with ethanol as a co-solvent, was evaluated and compared to that of the conventionally-obtained oils using either n-hexane or chloroform methanol mix ture. Physical characteristics, chemical properties, fatty acid composition and phenolic profile of oils were investigated.
The present results have an industrial and technological relevance as SFE could be competitive with the traditional extraction techniques providing an environmental approach and enhancing the obtained oil quality and stability. After recovery of the initial installation costs, SFE could be more economic than conventional extraction.
Comparison of Canola Meals Obtained with Conventional
Canola meal is a potentially valuable protein source. Canola meals extracted with supercritical CO 2 (SC‐CO 2) were compared to pressed meal and meals extracted with hexane. With regard to the chemical composition, the glucosinolate, phenolic acid, tannin and phosphorus contents were determined in addition to proximate analysis.

Dehulling canola seeds provides an enriched cake in oil and proteins leading to an improved meal quality after oil extraction. The aim of this work was therefore to explore the impact of dehulling pre-treatment on both oil recovery and quality, using cold pressing followed by supercritical CO 2 extraction. For this purpose, whole canola seeds, dehulled seeds, and reconstituted mixtures of 5%
