Supercritical CO2 extraction of grape seed oil: Effect
The effect of the main process variables affecting the supercritical CO 2 extraction of oil from seeds (namely grape seeds) was investigated, both experimentally and through modeling. The dependency of the extraction kinetics on the variables more tested in the literature (pressure, temperature, particle size and solvent flow rate) was confirmed, and original trends were obtained for the less ...
Grape seed has a well-known potential for production of oil as a byproduct of winemaking and is currently produced as a specialty oil byproduct of wine manufacture. Seed oils from eight varieties of grapes crushed for wine production in British Columbia were extracted by supercritical carbon dioxide (SCE) and petroleum ether (PE). Oil yields by SCE ranged from 5.85 ± 0.33 to 13.6 ± 0.46% (w ...
Supercritical extraction of grape seed oil at industrial
The process has been analyzed in depth and modeled and the results indicate that the proposed industrial application could be economically interesting: the breakeven point, which makes the process economically sustainable, is a value of 5.9 €/kg for the supercritical extracted grape seed oil.
If the quality of the supercritical extracted grape seed oil was similar to the quality of the grape seed oil obtained by cold pressure extraction (as it should be expected), we can affirm that the spread between production cost and retailing price is enough to make the supercritical process economically convenient.
Supercritical fluid extraction of grape seed: Process
Highlights Grape seeds oils was obtained by supercritical extraction in laboratory and pilot plant scale. The scale-up criterion of constant ratio of solvent to feed mass was successful. Economic evaluation of the process was performed using a commercial software. The best relationship between cost and oil yield was for process conditions of 313 K, 35 MPa, 240 min and S/F of 6.6.
In this work, the supercritical fluid extraction of grape seed oil has been studied at 180, 200 and 220 bar, and 313.15 and 323.15 K to analyse their influence upon oil quality. The extraction curves exhibit an initial linear extraction period followed by a smooth asymptotic plateau at 11.5%.
Grape Seed Oil Compounds: Biological and Chemical Actions
Grape seed oil has a great content of vitamin E, ranging from 1 to 53 mg per 100 g of oil, 11, 20 and 148–358 α-tocopherol equivalents, 21 which is higher than that of soybean oil and olive oil. In addition to the type of grape, vitamin E content in grape seed oil also depends on environmental cultivation conditions. 11, 22

Supercritical Fluid Extraction of Oils and Waxes
Abstract—The effect of carbon dioxide pressure, temperature, and time on the efficiency of supercritical fluid extraction of fatty oil and wax from grape seeds is studied. We find the optimum conditions for the production of oil and wax from grape seeds using supercritical carbon dioxide as an efficient extracting solvent, which showed an advantage over traditionally used organic solvents.

Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) of vegetable oils is an alternative method to organic solvent (namely hexane) and mechanical extraction. To exploit the SFE technology at industrial scale, the process has to be optimized. An effective way to perform optimization is to resort to models that are capable to describe and simulate the SFE process.
